Caffeine Anxiety and Panic Attacks

caffeine anxietyYou may need help with panic attacks from caffeine anxiety. Indulging in caffeine drinks is great but too much caffeine is another thing. Did you know caffeine is the most widely used mood-altering drug in the world? And I thought it was Ativan. Wow I used to feel so numb when I was taking that drug for my anxiety and panic problems. It was quite a contrast to the effects from caffeine. Thankfully I am not on medications any longer.

Anyway, that is according to a professor in the departments of psychiatry and neuroscience at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

By the way, I was just reading that the American Psychiatric Association has added three related disorders to its list of official diagnoses. Now I have to say that these are not disorders, they are a reaction to a stimulant that causes the mind and body to have known adverse affects, most notably, caffeine anxiety.

Caffeine Anxiety Affects

1. caffeine intoxication

2. caffeine-related anxiety

3. and caffeine-related sleep disorders

Here’s the rub on caffeine. It works by blocking the depressant function of a chemical called adenosine. Typically the result is a sense of pleasure and a higher level of energy and focus. But for people who need help with panic attacks, adding caffeine can take on a whole life of its own.

For example, if you suffer from panic attacks and make it a habit to skip breakfast, down a couple of java’s on the way to work, get caught in the usual morning traffic, then you’re probably pretty stressed by the time you end up at work. By then I bet you’re really looking forward to the rest of the day. And it hasn’t even started yet. PANIC TIME!

Everything that happens seems like it’s the end of the world. You can’t breathe, palms are sweaty, your heart is racing and you pretty much kick into the “fight or flight” response.

Been there, done that and I know it’s not pleasant (understatement). But living without anxiety and panic attacks is pleasant, very pleasant actually. I know, I’m finally living it.

So if you need help with panic attacks then remember this. Next time you’re about to have a panic attack meltdown, learn to recognize the pounding of your heart and quickened pulse as the symptoms for what they really are – a caffeine anxiety induced mega rush helped along by a really bad diet and not enough sleep, which really makes things even more interesting, to say the least.
