Why Overcoming Stress “Now” is Necessary

The term “stressed out” is so overused these days it doesn’t get the attention it deserves. Overcoming stress starts with an understanding of what stress is and what it does to us is step number 1.

You might feel that you are just stressed from work or a relationship. If that’s the case you need to get a hold of it now overcoming stressbecause it will not stay that simple for long, I know, I have been there and well beyond!

By a simple definition, stress is a response to unpleasant events or situations. Sounds simple enough doesn’t it? Well  by not overcoming stress, even this “simple” stuff that your living with, not only are you doing harm to your mind and body but the progressive direction it will move in and the places it will take you to are, to say the least, life altering!

If I am scaring you, I apologize. I actually meant to fill you with terror. Yes it is true that everyone lives with a small level of stress in their daily life. And, for the most part, it is a healthy thing. I did say small amount, right? It can keep you on alert in potentially harmful environments. But since your reading this, I will   assume that your stress level is getting up there.

Overcoming Stress Solution

Let me give you a really good analogy I have read many times. Suppose you hold a glass of water in your hand and I asked you how much it weighed. You would venture a guess. But here is the answer.

If you hold it for a minute, it feels like it barely weighs anything. Hold it for an hour and your arm starts to hurt a lot. Hold it for a day and your arm falls off (so to speak), although it might very well. In either case, the glass of water still weighs the same. I guess you see where I am going with this.

Stress acts the same way. A little stress for a short time, no problem. Hold onto it for a long time and the results are not positive. The weight of those stressful situations builds to a point where you cannot hold on anymore. Guess what? You’re now to the next unpleasant level. Chronic stress or better yet, chronic anxiety with all its wonderful affects. Is overcoming stress a priority for you yet? Okay, how about examining some of the following affects from chronic stress and anxiety.

  • racing heart
  • heart palpitations (in both cases, you feel like you are having a heart attack, which you are not)
  • extreme nervousness
  • headaches
  • constant worry and fear
  • insomnia
  • increased risk of developing heart decease

And we have not even got to “panic attacks” yet. Oh, those are fun. I can say all this because I suffered with generalized anxiety disorder for 30 years until recently. My panic attacks would make watching a horror movie in 3D seem like a walk in the park!

The reality is that overcoming stress is absolutely necessary and the earlier the better. And one thing to understand, actually two things, are as follows:

  • You do not have any illness (and you are not losing your mind)
  • Stress and anxiety are not the cause of your problem. There is a root cause underneath it all and your stress and anxiety are symptomatic of that root cause and the core understanding to overcoming stress.
